agape- “an ancient greek term referring to the highest form of love” “a response of the heart to all existence of life” “in a state of wonder” “universal love” “spiritual love”
In a nutshell, these various definitions describe my latest piece. I created this painting as a vision of eternal love, motherly love, heavenly love… It represents a connection to our earliest human ancestors, to nature and to the divine. Thinking about these connections is nothing less than profound.
And fittingly, the first stop for this piece is the Portland Love Show, where it will be on display for the next month! What’s unique about this show is not all the pieces are “happy” – love is explored in all aspects and you will enjoy experiencing a wide variety of artistic styles and interpretations. If you are in the Portland area, I hope you can make it 🙂 portlandloveshow.com
In the studio working on Universal Love…..
Humble beginnings: I began this piece with an toned ground of light tans, blues and brown to create more depth. It was my original vision to create a universal-looking figure that had a mix of skin tones or perhaps even rainbow skin like some of my sculpted figures. But as I moved forward I felt the piece calling me to choose just one tone- most similar to an early human ancestor.
Moving onward, I added more details to the face, outlined the angel wings and light rays. I used a soft mop brush to give depth to the earth’s color.
Rainbow light 🙂
Framed and ready for the show! ❤️
