Bee + Pink Flower – encaustic art 4 x 4
Bee + Pink Flower – encaustic art 4 x 4

For the love of bees…

I designed this small series to celebrate the importance of bees in our world! Not only are they a significant pollinator for plants (which our ecosystem depends on), the honey they produce is highly valuable for food and medicinal use. The beeswax they create is beneficial for skincare products, candles, sealing wood or other materials, medicinal purposes and even art, as you can see :)

This piece has been created with hot encaustic wax which is 85% beeswax, and a few bee friends were nearby when I created it (bees love beeswax!). Each piece in the series is one of a kind and includes my original hand-drawn watercolor and ink illustration sealed into the wax. The surface is then embellished with metallic oil paint and pastel for a shimmering effect. Each piece is one of a kind and signed on the back.

Crow Spirit Rising Print 8×10
Crow Spirit Rising Print 8×10

~Crow Spirit Rising~

Honoring the spirit of crow and the tradition of shamanism, this piece came about after I had been noticing crows for a while. Sometimes they would talk, sometimes just one would appear. One day on my walk home, my pulse pounded as I suddenly saw a dead headless crow lying by a tree before me. Feeling the need to transform and honor that crow’s life, as well as to promote the importance of our connection to nature I created this piece.

This richly-colored print shows the detailed texture of paper collage and acrylic medium in the original painting.

Little Whistler Giclee print 8″x 10″
Little Whistler Giclee print 8″x 10″

I created Little Whistler (Northern Saw-whet Owl) for a show highlighting native species and conservation concerns on the Oregon Coast. The Northern Saw-whet is one of the smallest species of owls in North America and also across the Pacific Northwest (just 6-8 inches tall!). Its population is slowly declining. Habitat loss due to logging and other factors like climate impact its nesting/breeding grounds. Similar in size Io a Robin or Jay, they are known for their unique whistling sound that is like a saw being sharpened on a whetstone. Other than its shrill sound, this little raptor is charming. They’re hard to spot but like to sit low in the branches- look in deciduous woods and forests along the coast and inland. Also known as Acadian owl, Charlotte owl, Kirkland’s owl, Saw-flier, Sparrow owl and White-fronted owl. Like all owls, it is said to be symbolic of sight, wisdom and mystery!

Robin’s Song Giclee print 6″ x 8″

Is anything more cheerful than a Robin’s song? (Ok, I’m biased ;)) This piece conveys the joy of this sweet bird’s song in all seasons. Robins are known for their spring cheer, however they also love winter berries and will flock to trees/shrubs such as cotoneaster, plum, cherry, crabapple, hawthorne, and holly, among others. ☺️
