Back in February, we took some needed R & R and ventured to Costa Rica for 10 days. In short, it was an amazing trip which enriched my vision to create! 🙂 We rented a car and traveled around the country from the Caribbean to the central mountains, rainforest and then to the Pacific side.
Natural beaches on the Caribbean, Cahuita National Park area
In true Costa Rican style, the weather changed rapidly from sun to rain and back again.
Is anything cuter than a happy sloth? (@ Sloth Sanctuary, a wonderful place where they rescue injured sloths.)
Near Arenal volcano, the landscape was mountainous and lush.
La Paz Waterfall Gardens
Literally hundreds of wild orchid varieties grow there.
Mariposa (butterfly) walk
Inches from hummingbirds. Nothing short of magical being so close to these birds…
One with the waterfall at La Fortuna. Good fortune indeed 🙂
Wonderful local galleries filled with nature-inspired artists and colorful art along the way. My favorites were CASEM art co-op and Art House in Monteverde (pictured).
Often friends like these would greet us 😉
We were honored and delighted to see the endangered Quetzal in the Cloud Forest! Definitely a highlight of the trip.
Amazing artifacts at the Costa Rican Museo Cultural
Beautiful art and crafts brought home. Especially this mola! (reverse hand appliqué quilting native to central america) and hand embroidered hummingbird pillowcase.
And finally, in the studio some of the inspiration from this trip is now taking form. On the easel now- my latest piece “Natural Order”:
Another CR/Mexico inspired piece ” Sacred Kingdom”, created to benefit for Audubon Society Portland. The original has sold, but prints are now available in the RPS Shop!
As they say in CR, Pura Vida! 🙂
